Food on Shelves: Les Dîners de Gala by Salvador Dalì
Apparently, artist Salvador Dalì was very passionate about food and had wanted to be a Chef ever since he was a child. That’s why, aged 68, he wrote Les Dîners de Gala . The book consists of twelve chapters with the most surrealist and incredible titles – Autumn Cannibalism, The Sodomized Starters and Deoxyribonucleic Atavism to name but a few – and 136 recipes compiled by Dalì and his wife Gala and prepared by famous French chefs and restaurants, such as Lasserre, La Tour d’Argent, Maxim’s and Le Buffet de la Gare de Lyon.
“We would like to state clearly that Les Dîners de Gala is uniquely devoted to the pleasures of taste,” writes Dalì in the book’s introduction, “If you are a disciple of one of those calorie-counters who turn the joys of eating into a form of punishment, close this book at once; it is too lively, too aggressive, and far too impertinent for you.”
The book was republished by Taschen last Christmas, 40 years after it was first released, and is an absolutely must-have for all passionate foodies and everybody else as well.
